From a small Toronto warehouse in 1957 to the South Pole, the Canadian Arctic, and every city winter in between. The round disc on the sleeve is the mark of a garment designed, tested, and made in Canada.
1957
A workshop in Toronto
Sam Tick founds Metro Sportswear in a small Toronto warehouse, sewing woolen vests and rainwear for Canadian tradespeople who needed gear that could actually take the winter.
1972
The volume-down fill machine
David Reiss, Sam's son-in-law, invents a volume-down fill machine that lets a single parka pack far more loft without shifting — the first time a Canadian brand could reliably compete on warmth against European rivals.
1982
The Expedition Parka
Designed for scientists living at the McMurdo Research Station in Antarctica, the Expedition Parka becomes the benchmark for arctic-grade outerwear. Issued to researchers working at –40°C for months at a time.
1985
Canadian Rangers
The Canadian Rangers — the Arctic patrol of the Canadian Armed Forces — adopt our parkas as standard issue for sovereignty patrols on the ice above the 60th parallel.
1997
Canada Goose, by name
Metro Sportswear renames itself Canada Goose. The round maple-leaf disc arrives on every sleeve — a mark that the garment was designed, tested, and made in Canada.
2007
Polar Bears International
Partnership with Polar Bears International begins, funding climate research and the PBI collection — a portion of every PBI parka supports Arctic conservation and the world's polar bear populations.
2015
Antarctic Service Medal
The Expedition Parka receives the U.S. Antarctic Service Medal for its role supporting three decades of American polar research. It remains the required outer layer at McMurdo.
2020
An end to fur
We commit to ending the use of all wild fur across our product range. The transition is complete in 2022, with coyote ruffs replaced by reclaimed and recycled fur alternatives of equivalent wind performance.
